BWEF Scholarships
The Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation welcomes scholarship opportunities and endowments in the name of a donor or alumni, starting with a value of $500. Each year, we award several scholarships to graduating students from Baldwin High School and have awarded over $60,000 in scholarship value since 2018. A committee reviews all applications and scores each submission based on an established set of criteria, and scholarship recipients are recognized at Baldwin High School year end banquets. We are honored to award the following scholarships:

- Annual BWEF Scholarships
We award several scholarships annually to deserving Baldwin High School seniors who exhibit the qualities of pride, discipline, respect and commitment to the values inherent in the Baldwin-Whitehall School District, and carry a minimum grade point average of 3.0. The number of scholarships and the value of each varies from year to year. Seniors can apply for scholarships online during the application window (typically April). - Brady Family Merit Scholarship
The Brady Family Merit Scholarship recognizes academic excellence at Baldwin High School and supports students in need of tuition assistance as they pursue a degree in higher education. The scholarship will be awarded annually in the value of $5,000, and was established through the generosity of the Brady family, who strongly believe that education is one of the primary keys to a fulfilling life. - Donald Huckle Memorial Band Scholarship
In partnership with the family of Mr. Donald Huckle, former director of the Highlander Marching Band, we award an annual scholarship to a deserving Baldwin High School Band Member who exhibits the qualities of pride, discipline, respect, and commitment advocated by Mr. Huckle during his tenure at Baldwin High School. Recipients of this award must be graduating seniors at Baldwin High School and a current member of the Highlander Marching Band, have participated in at least three band seasons including senior year, and plan to attend an institution of higher education. - Dorothy Hutchins Forman Visual Arts Scholarship
The Dorothy Hutchins Forman Visual Arts Scholarship is presented annually to two graduating seniors and valued at $1,000 each. Students must demonstrate an ability to draw, paint, and/or sculpt while communicating the unconscious in a concrete format; or intend to pursue a career as an artist and has demonstrated an ability to work with children while displaying their artistic ability. The scholarship was established in 2024 by the Forman family through a $20,000 endowment to Baldwin-Whitehall Educational Foundation. - Entering the Workforce Scholarship
Approximately 10% of the graduating class of Baldwin High School is entering the workforce instead of pursuing a post-secondary education. To support this population, BWEF will award the Workforce Readiness Scholarship beginning in 2024. The scholarship is funded through an annual fundraiser held at Definitely You in Brentwood Towne Square. - Highlander STEM Scholarship presented by River Point Technology
The Highlander Scholarship presented by River Point Technology recognizes students' outstanding efforts in science, technology, and communication. The recipients demonstrate an ability to understand challenging STEM-related topics, can apply their skills to solve technological problems, and can communicate results to others articulately. This scholarship is presented to up to three Baldwin High School seniors annually. - James E. Lewis Science Scholarship
James Lewis was a biologist who specialized in lepidoptery (butterflies/moths) and bees. The Baldwin High alum (class of 1962) went on to receive two degrees from the University of Miami. The scholarship was created through a $30,000 gift at the time of Mr. Lewis's death in 2018 through the James E. Lewis Science Endowment, and is awarded annually to a student who intends to pursue a higher education degree in biology, botany, environmental sciences or a related science field. To be considered for this scholarship, a student must demonstrate a love of the natural world, be of good character, show kindness toward others and have a grade point average of at least 2.75. - Officer Sean Sluganski Memorial Scholarship
Officer Sean Sluganski of the McKeesport Police Department was killed in the line of duty on February 6, 2023. To honor his legacy, BWEF has partnered with several local law enforcement agencies to offer a memorial scholarship in Officer Sluganski's name. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of Baldwin High School who intends to pursue a career in law enforcement or crime prevention.
