James E. Lewis Science Scholarship
The James E. Lewis Science Scholarship was established in 2018 and is awarded annually to a student who intends to pursue a higher education degree in biology, botany, environmental sciences or a related science field.
James E. Lewis was a biologist who specialized in lepidoptery (butterflies/moths) and bees. Upon graduating from Baldwin High School in 1962, he went on to receive two degrees from the University of Miami. The scholarship was created through a $30,000 endowment at the time of Mr. Lewis's death and the annual value varies from $500 to $1,500.

To be considered for this scholarship, a student must demonstrate a love of the natural world, be of good character, show kindness toward others, and have a grade point average of at least 2.75. The application also includes:
- A copy of your high school transcript,
- A copy of your college acceptance letter,
- Two letters of recommendation,
- A scholarship application essay (3 page maximum) that describes your particular area of scientific interest, goals for your continuing education and how the scholarship will help you achieve those goals.
